Anthem of the Seas Review | Gary Donaldson
Having been a keen cruiser since the early 1980’s, Gary Donaldson has long been a passionate traveller. He has been selling cruises for 15 years and knows a thing or two about delivering the ideal cruise for each and every unique individual customer. However, upon arriving in Southampton to board Royal Caribbean’s new Quantum Class ship, Gary was completely taken aback.
A lot of attention has been focussed on this new, futuristic ship that boasts the popular features found onboard Quantum of the Seas. These include the North Star, RipCord by IFLY, Two70°, FlowRider, and the Bionic Bar.
“It lived up to the hype! The word ‘Wow!’ sums up the whole ship.”
This was Gary’s opening statement. Any doubts about the ship, the on board service and potential crowdedness were all put to bed instantly. Many GoCruise specialists from across the country came down to Southampton for to see this truly mesmerising ship for themselves. Gary travelled all the way down from Edinburgh to see it for himself.
With so many amazing features boasted on board, Gary was quick to highlight the value for families on board Anthem of the Seas. “SeaPlex is really innovative! The bumper cars are so addictive. It’s a good place for families to meet up after going off and enjoying their own activities.”
In terms of size, Anthem of the Seas will be the joint third largest cruise ship in the world – behind Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas. Some travellers may consider this to be a daunting prospect, but the thoughts of everyone on board were completely the opposite.
“The size is fine. Part of going on a cruise holiday and being on a large ship is finding all the nooks and crannies.”
Additionally, some people may complain that such a large family friendly ship may fail to deliver in terms of comfort and luxury, but this was not the case either. “Dubai doesn’t even come close! They’ve really pulled their game up with food, especially with Jamie Oliver now on board. We ate at Café Two70, Grande and Silk and everywhere we went the food was superb.”
“Compared to anything land-based, this is absolutely superb.”
Gary also had much praise for the quality of the staterooms. “The staterooms were a lot more spacious. The balconies were a good size and, above all, they were all very clean.”
“Everything you could possibly need is on board this ship. It has all the facilities times ten!! And everything is only a couple of minutes away from your stateroom.”
Although many of Royal Caribbean’s ships appeal to families and younger travellers; the elegance, luxury and quality of everything on board is second to none. This means Anthem of the Seas could also appeal to those looking for something a little more intimate.
“I particularly liked the Solarium adult’s only area. It had a tropical feel and is a perfect spot for parents to get some private time together on board.”
“The kid’s facilities are also excellent. They’ll be able to have the time of their lives whilst the parents are in the Solarium.”
When talking about the modern, futuristic amenities on board; Gary talked of his amazement over the Two70° show lounge. “The robotic screens are incredible. They’re 100 miles away from any cinema on land.”
‘How would you sell this cruise?’ was the final question to be asked to Gary. He replied by stating that Anthem of the Seas would appeal to everyone. “She is perfect for groups and any group would be impressed with the facilities and fantastic service on board.”
