Sports Extravaganza on Harmony of the Seas
Earlier this month, Royal Caribbean released new images of the third oasis class vessel, which is set to launch in less than six months’ time. Harmony of the Seas, which is currently under construction at the STX shipyard in St. Nazaire, France, will weigh in at 227,000 gross tons – making it the largest cruise ship in the world.
Many updates have been released about this exciting new vessel this month, including the announcement that Broadway show “Grease” will feature on board. This fantastic performance will be one of two new shows to feature on board Harmony of the Seas, with the other being “COLUMBUS The Musical”, which will tell the story of Marvin Columbus - a distant relative of Christopher.
But perhaps the most exciting news to come from Royal Caribbean this month is the announcement of how much sports equipment will feature on Harmony of the Seas. Over seven hours, a team of 20 people assembled a display of what will be available on Harmony of the Seas, using 1,700 pieces of equipment – only half of what will feature on board.
A total of 3,415 pieces of gear will be available to guests, providing opportunities to participate in 30 different sports and games activities. With a capacity for 5,479 guests, this figure works out at roughly two pieces of sports equipment per every three guests on board. As the infographic video above suggests, guests will be able to participate in sports such as golf, football, volleyball – whilst younger guests will be able to enjoy facilities such as colourful ball pits.
Guests will also be able to try their hand at sports such as ice skating, surfing, zip wire, badminton, table tennis and even unusual sports such as blongoball - a combination of croquet, horseshoes and bocce). There will also be a huge gym, complete with studios and offering a wide range of classes.
Additionally, it has been previously announced that Harmony of the Seas will also feature three exhilarating multi-level "Perfect Storm" water slides and a ten-storey dry slide called the Ultimate Abyss.
Stuart Leven, Managing Director UK and Ireland, said: "There aren't many holidays where families can visit multiple destinations, try their hand at ice skating, body boarding, a zip wire and learn how to blongoball all in one trip! Harmony of the Seas offers holidaymakers the opportunity to explore amazing destinations and enjoy a world of new experiences, with an activity to cater for every age and every taste."
Upon completion, Harmony of the Seas will dock in Southampton, providing British cruisers with an opportunity to experience this behemoth vessel. There will be two short roundtrip sailings, both of which are worth noting in your calendar if you want to learn about what Royal Caribbean has to offer.
Departing on the 22nd May 2016, Harmony of the Seas will complete a four-night sailing, stopping in Rotterdam. On the 26th May 2016, she will sail from Southampton to Cherbourg for a three-night sailing. Alternatively, you can also sail to the Mediterranean, with a seven-night sailing to Barcelona departing from Southampton on 29th May 2016.
After these three sailings, Harmony of the Seas will then complete a series of summer Mediterranean cruises out of Barcelona and Rome. This is a perfect opportunity to encourage young travellers and adamant non-cruisers to embark on a holiday on the seas for the very first time. With the vast range of exciting facilities and amenities available on board, your customers are sure to be wowed and will definitely be coming back for more.
